I Can't Upload or View a File

If a file won't upload, or if you're seeing an error when trying to view media on a Closot page, this guide covers what causes these issues and how to resolve them.

Error Messages You Might See

  • This image couldn't be loaded
  • This audio format can't be played on this device
  • This video format can't be played on this device
  • Permission denied
note

Pages with a large number of images can trigger loading errors because all images attempt to load at the same time. If you have a media-heavy page, this may be the root cause rather than any single file being corrupted or unsupported.

What to Try

1. Move Images into Toggles or Remove Extras

If a page has many images loading at once, wrapping some of them inside toggle blocks reduces how much loads simultaneously. This significantly reduces the chance of image loading errors on media-heavy pages.

2. Test in Incognito Mode

Open the page in an incognito or private browser window. If the file loads correctly there but not in your regular browser:

  • Your browser's cache may be stale — clear it and reload
  • Your browser may need an update — check for available updates

3. Re-upload the File

Download the file to your device and upload it fresh to Closot. This is especially useful if the file was originally embedded from an external source or uploaded a long time ago.

4. Check That the File Type Is Supported

Not all file formats work in Closot. If you're uploading a format that isn't on the supported list, it won't display correctly. See the Supported File Types section below.

For files that are linked from an external source rather than uploaded directly, confirm that the source URL and file format are compatible.

5. Check File URL Expiry

Closot file URLs are time-limited for security — they expire after 24 hours. If you're trying to view a file through an old link or a shared URL, it may have expired. Download the original file and re-upload it to Closot to generate a fresh, working URL.

If a YouTube video embedded on a Closot page won't play due to copyright-restricted music, try opening the embed directly in your web browser rather than in the Closot desktop app.
