Keyboard Shortcuts

Once the basics are in your fingers, most of Closot can be driven without reaching for the mouse. This page lists every shortcut currently available, grouped by what it does.

Reading the Keys

SymbolMacWindows and Linux
⌘CommandCtrl
⌥OptionAlt
⇧ShiftShift

One group genuinely differs between platforms — Turn a Block Into uses ⌘⌥ on Mac but Ctrl + ⇧ on Windows and Linux. Everything else is identical once you swap ⌘ for Ctrl.

ShortcutAction
⌘KOpen search
⌘FFind on the current page
⌘\Show or hide the sidebar
⌘⌥NCreate a new private page and open it
⌘[Go back
⌘]Go forward
⌘⇧LSwitch between light and dark mode
note

⌘K needs a workspace to search, so it does nothing on the workspace picker, the sign-in screen, or a public page view.

Find on Page

Press ⌘F, then:

KeyAction
TypeHighlights every match as you go, with the current one picked out
EnterJump to the next match
⇧EnterJump to the previous match
EscClose the bar and clear the highlights

Find searches the whole document, including text scrolled far out of view. Matching ignores capitalization, and stepping past the last match wraps around to the first.

Text Formatting

Select some text first, or start typing with the mark active.

ShortcutFormatting
⌘BBold
⌘IItalic
⌘UUnderline
⌘⇧SStrikethrough
⌘EInline code
⌘⇧HAI highlight

Text highlight colors have no shortcut — use the color button in the toolbar that appears when text is selected. See Style & Customize Your Page.

Blocks

ShortcutAction
⌘DDuplicate the current block
⌘LCopy a link to the current block
⌘⇧↑Move the block above the one before it
⌘⇧↓Move the block below the one after it
BackspaceDelete the selected block

Duplicating a list item copies the whole item, marker included. Opening a copied block link reopens the page focused on that block — see Links.

note

Deleting a board or a page asks for confirmation first. Other blocks are removed immediately, though ⌘Z will bring them back.

Selecting

ShortcutAction
⌘ASelect the current block; press again to select the whole page

Turn a Block Into

Put the cursor in a block, or select several, then:

History

ShortcutAction
⌘ZUndo
⌘⇧ZRedo

When several people are editing the same page, undo only reverses your own changes — you can't accidentally roll back a teammate's work. For restoring an entire earlier version of a page, see Delete & Restore Content.
