Slack Integration

The Closot–Slack integration connects your communication and your workspace so context doesn't stay trapped in one place. Create Closot database items straight from Slack, get Closot notifications delivered to your Slack channels, preview Slack messages inside Closot pages, and trigger automated Slack messages when database items change.

Set Up the Slack Integration

For Closot Notifications in Slack

  1. Go to SettingsNotifications in the sidebar
  2. Scroll to the Slack notifications section
  3. Click Add new account and complete the Slack authorization flow

For Database Automations

  1. Click ••• at the top of the database
  2. Select AutomationsAdd trigger
  3. Choose a trigger: Page added or Property edited
  4. Add the action Send Slack notification to...
  5. Select the Slack channel to send to
note

Each user must connect their own Slack account individually — one person connecting the integration does not activate it for other workspace members.

Send a Slack Message to a Closot Database

Turn any Slack message into a Closot database item without leaving Slack:

From a Slack message:

  1. Click on the message → Send to Closot
  2. Search for or paste a link to the database
  3. Enter a page title
  4. Click Add property to include additional property values
  5. Toggle Confirm page creation publicly if you want a confirmation posted in the channel
  6. Click Save

Using a slash command:

  1. Type /closot create in any Slack channel
  2. Follow the same steps as above
note

The /closot create command works at the channel level only — it does not work inside Slack threads.

File a Task from Slack

Create a structured task in a Closot project database directly from Slack:

  1. Use the slash command /closot task, or click a message's menu → Create task in Closot
  2. Search for or paste a link to the target project database
  3. Fill in the task name, assignee, status, due date, and description
  4. Toggle public confirmation if needed
  5. Click Save
note

Like the create command, /closot task operates at the channel level and is not available inside threads.

Get Closot Notifications in Slack

Receive Closot activity alerts directly in your Slack workspace instead of — or in addition to — email and in-app notifications.

Two notification levels are available:

  • Mentions only — notifies you when someone @-mentions you in a page, comment, or person property
  • Full activity — includes mentions plus: comments on pages you own, database property changes, page invitations, and access requests

Configure Slack Notifications

  1. Go to SettingsNotifications
  2. Open the Slack notifications dropdown
  3. Select your Slack workspace
  4. Toggle Activity in your workspace to choose your notification level

Disable Slack Notifications

  1. Go to SettingsNotifications
  2. Open the Slack notifications dropdown
  3. Set it to Off

Slack Automation Actions

You can trigger a custom Slack message as an automated action in three places: page buttons, database automations, and database button properties.

Rich Message Formatting

Automated Slack messages support:

  • Bold and italic text formatting
  • Hyperlinks
  • @-mentions to Closot pages, people, and workareas
  • Dynamic variables like @now (current timestamp) and @trigger.person (the person who triggered the action)
  • Slack-native variables: @channel and @here
  • Emojis

In a Page Button

  1. Insert a Button block on any Closot page
  2. Click Add action
  3. Select Send Slack notification to...
  4. Choose the destination Slack channel
note

Private Slack DMs are not available as destinations — only channels can be selected.

In a Database Automation

  1. Click ••• at the top of the database → AutomationsNew automation
  2. Name the automation
  3. Add a trigger (e.g., property changed, page added)
  4. Add the action Send Slack notification to...
  5. Select the destination channel

In a Database Button Property

  1. Add a Button property to your database
  2. Set the property type to Button
  3. Under the button's action, select Send Slack notification to...
  4. Pick the Slack channel

Preview Slack Messages in Closot

Embed a live preview of any Slack message directly inside a Closot page:

  1. In Slack, copy the link to a specific message
  2. Paste the link into a Closot page
  3. Select Paste as preview

The preview shows the message content, send time, channel name, and reply count. Click Reload preview to refresh it with the latest replies.

When you paste a Closot page link into a Slack message, Slack automatically unfurls it — showing useful information about the page inline in the conversation.

If the page has an AI summary property configured, the summary is included in the Slack unfurl automatically.

If a teammate viewing the unfurl doesn't have access to the page, they can request access directly from Slack — and you can grant it without leaving the conversation.

Invite a Slack Contact to a Closot Page

  1. Open the Closot page and click Share
  2. Click the search bar
  3. Select Add contacts from Slack
  4. Search for the person by name
  5. Click Invite
