Embed & Connect Other Apps

Closot isn't just a place to write — it's a hub you can pull external content into. Embed live previews from hundreds of services, create rich bookmarks from URLs, insert inline link mentions, and connect external apps so their content lives alongside your notes, databases, and documents without any context-switching.

Insert an Embed​

There are three ways to add an embed block to any page:

  • Click the + button on a new line and select Embed
  • Type /embed to use the slash command and upload a file directly
  • Paste a content URL — Closot will offer to convert it into an embed

Some websites explicitly block their content from being embedded elsewhere. If an embed doesn't render, the source site may have disabled embedding.

Resize and Reposition Embeds​

  • Resize: Hover over the embed and drag the black bars on its edges inward or outward
  • Reposition: Use the ⋮⋮ drag handle to move the embed block to a different position on the page
  • View original: Click Original on the embed to open the source in a new tab
  • Replace: Hover over the embed and use the hover menu to swap the embedded URL for a different one

Supported Embeds​

Closot supports embeds from over 1,900 domains via the Iframely service. Popular supported services include:

Video & Presentations: YouTube, Vimeo, Loom

Design & Collaboration: Miro, Figma

Code: GitHub Gist

Maps & Location: Google Maps

Audio & Music: Spotify

Forms & Surveys: Typeform

Social: X (Twitter)

Supported file types for direct upload embeds: HTML, PDF, audio, video, and images

Web Bookmarks​

When you paste a URL into a Closot page and select Paste as bookmark, Closot fetches and displays the page's title, description, and URL as a visually distinct bookmark block — much like a rich link preview in a messaging app.

Bookmarks are useful for referencing external resources without the full embed — cleaner than a plain URL, more informative at a glance.

Link mentions are a more subtle alternative to bookmarks. They appear inline within your text — like a hyperlink — rather than as a separate block. They're ideal when you want to reference a URL mid-sentence without interrupting the flow of the content.

Connected Apps​

GitHub​

Connect GitHub to Closot to embed code file previews, sync pull requests and issues into databases, and link GitHub activity directly to your tasks. See GitHub Integration for the full setup guide.

Manage Connected Apps​

All your connected app accounts — including GitHub, Slack and others — are managed from one place:

Settings → Connections

From here you can connect new accounts, disconnect existing ones, and add additional accounts (for apps that support multiple account connections).
