Layouts
Layouts let you control the visual structure of database pages — deciding where properties appear, how they're grouped, and what gets surfaced prominently versus tucked away. When a database has many properties, a well-designed layout keeps pages clean and navigable so team members can find what they need without scrolling through an overwhelming flat list.
- Building and editing layouts requires at minimum Can edit access to the database
- Layout changes apply to all pages in the database — you cannot set different layouts per individual page
- The full layout builder is available on desktop and web only
Layout Components
Heading & Pinned Properties
Pin up to four database properties to the page heading — these appear prominently at the top of every database page. You can also control how backlinks display: always visible, visible on hover, or hidden entirely.
Main Page Area
The large content section below the heading. It's ideal for properties that contain substantial information, such as sub-items or rich text fields that benefit from more vertical space.
Property Group
A section that displays database properties in an organized grouping. Property groups can be placed in the main page area or in the details panel. Within a group you can:
- Show or hide specific properties
- Add named sections to further organize properties
- Drag properties into different sections
Details Panel
A collapsible right-side panel. Add individual properties or modules to the details panel to keep them accessible but out of the way by default.
Page Settings
Configure the overall page structure and display preferences:
- Structure: Simple or Tabbed (see below)
- Comment style: Inline or thread-style
- Discussion visibility
- Property icons: Show or hide icons next to property names
- Full-width mode
Layout Structures
Simple
The default structure. Properties are distributed across the main page area and the details panel in a single continuous layout. Best for most standard database use cases.
Tabbed
Adds a tab bar to the page. The first tab is always the Content tab. Additional tabs can display related database views — for example, a project page with a tab for associated tasks, a tab for meeting notes, and a tab for linked documents.
Modules
Modules highlight specific properties as independent visual sections, giving them more prominence than a standard property row. Add a module from the layout builder by clicking + Add module, then move it between the main page area and details panel as needed.
You cannot move or remove the page heading. You also cannot remove the property group entirely — only configure what it contains.
Save Your Layout
Click Apply to all pages to roll out the layout across every page in the database.
To revert to the original default layout, open the dropdown and select Reset to default — your property data is preserved, only the visual arrangement resets.
