Skills for Closot Agent

Skills are saved prompts you can run with Closot Agent whenever you need them. If you find yourself writing the same kind of prompt over and over — "rewrite this more concisely," "turn this into action items," "reformat this as a spec" — that's a strong signal it should be a Skill.

A Skill is just a Closot page you've designated as a Skill, which means you can organize it, share it, and manage it exactly like any other page in your workspace.

What Are Skills?

Skills give you a fast, repeatable way to run common tasks through Closot Agent. The text selection menu includes a set of built-in Skills — Improve writing, Proofread, Explain, and Reformat — and you can create custom Skills to supplement or replace them.

Use a Skill when your task is:

  • Repeatable — You or your team does this regularly
  • Contextual — It should run on a specific selection or page in the moment
  • Consistent — You want a reliable output structure or quality level every time

A simple rule: if you'd copy and paste the same prompt more than once, it's a good candidate for a Skill.

When Should I Use Skills?

Skills work best for structured, repeatable tasks that need to be applied to specific content. Some examples:

  • Executive-ready rewrites — Reformat and tighten text to match a specific tone, length, and structure
  • Meeting note processing — Convert raw notes into a clean action item list or a stakeholder recap email
  • Template conversion — Turn a draft into a specific format like a PRD summary, FAQ doc, or spec skeleton
  • Document standardization — Apply consistent formatting (bullet style, heading hierarchy, writing style) across different documents

Best Practices for Creating Skills

Getting Skills right is mostly about writing good prompts. A few things that make a real difference:

  • Start with a common workflow — Pick something you do at least weekly: rewriting, summarizing, reformatting, or recapping
  • Write it like a strong prompt — Include the goal, what the input is, any constraints, and exactly what the output should look like
  • Be explicit about output format — Vague instructions produce vague results. "Return exactly 5 bullet points" or "always include a risks section and a next steps section" are much more reliable than "summarize this"
  • Keep the Skill page concise — Link to longer reference documents rather than pasting everything in
  • Iterate over time — Update the Skill page as you discover what works and what doesn't

How to Use a Skill

In Closot Agent

In the chat interface, type @ followed by the name of the Skill page to invoke it. Closot Agent will run the Skill against the relevant content.

In the Text Editor

  1. Select any body of text on a page
  2. The text selection menu will appear — choose a Skill from the list to apply it to your selection

Sharing and Permissions

Because Skills are standard Closot pages, sharing works exactly the same way:

  • Share a Skill page with a teammate and they can run that Skill with their own Closot Agent
  • If a teammate has edit access to the Skill page, their changes to it will affect the Skill itself
  • View and manage all Skills from SettingsClosot AISkills
