Instructions for Closot Agent
Instructions tell your personal Closot Agent how to respond by default — covering things like tone, formatting preferences, and rules you want applied consistently. Your Agent reads your active Instructions page before every chat, so once they're set, you don't need to repeat yourself.
You can only have one active Instructions page at a time, but you can create multiple and switch between them whenever your needs change.
What Are Instructions?
Instructions are the always-on rulebook for your Closot Agent. They define a baseline that applies to every action your Agent takes — so instead of re-stating your preferences on each query, you define them once and your Agent carries them forward automatically.
When Should I Use Instructions?
Instructions are best for preferences and rules that should hold across all your interactions with Closot Agent. Use them when your preference is:
- Always-on — It should apply to every Closot Agent response, not just one specific task
- Personal — It reflects your writing style, tone, or working norms
- Low-maintenance — You set it once and rarely need to revisit it
A simple rule: if you've corrected the same Closot Agent behavior twice, it belongs in your Instructions.
Example Use Cases
- Tone and voice — "Always write in a direct, concise tone. Avoid filler phrases."
- Formatting rules — "Use checklists for action items. Always use H2 headings for section breaks."
- Output structure — "Keep summaries under five bullet points. End every response with a clear next step."
- Role context — "I work on the customer success team. Prioritize responses that are practical and client-ready."

Best Practices for Writing Instructions
Good Instructions are focused, specific, and short. Here's what works:
- Think in defaults — Ask yourself: "What do I want every Closot Agent response to look like?" Start there.
- Lead with what you want — Frame preferences positively rather than listing what to avoid
- Be specific about formatting — "Use bullet points, not paragraphs" is far more reliable than "keep it clean"
- Keep it short — A tight, clear Instructions page outperforms a long, vague one. Add more only when a real gap shows up
- Revisit periodically — Your working style evolves. Review your Instructions every few months and trim anything that no longer applies
Sharing and Permissions
Instructions are standard Closot pages, so sharing follows the same rules as any other page in your workspace. If you share your Instructions page with a teammate, it does not automatically become their active Instructions — they need to set it themselves by going to ••• → Use with AI → Set as Closot AI Instructions on that page.
