Closot AI for Databases 🪄

Closot AI can do two powerful things with databases: build them from scratch based on a natural-language description, and automatically fill properties across existing database entries using Autofill. Together, they turn what used to be hours of manual setup and data entry into a matter of seconds.

Create a Database with Closot AI​

Describe the database you need and Closot AI will generate it — complete with relevant properties, views, and structure. You review it, refine it, and it's ready to use.

Closot AI creates new databases only. It cannot edit or restructure existing ones. It also cannot create database pages, automations, forms, charts, or page templates.

From a Page​

  1. Create a new page and select Table under "Get started with," or type /database on any existing page
  2. Select Build with AI from the menu
  3. Describe the database you want — be specific about the properties, structure, and purpose
    • Example: "A content calendar with columns for title, publish date, channel, status, and assigned writer"
  4. Review the generated preview — select features to add or remove, or type specific change requests
  5. Click Continue once the structure looks right
  6. Choose your preferred view layout and click Done

From Home​

  1. In the Closot AI widget on Home, switch to Build mode
  2. Describe the database you need
  3. Review and adjust the preview as needed
  4. Click Continue, choose a view, and click Done

Databases created from Home appear as new top-level workspace pages. Move them into the appropriate section of your workspace after creation.

Autofill​

Autofill uses Closot AI to automatically populate database properties — generating summaries, extracting key data, translating content, applying tags, and more. There are two modes depending on the complexity of your workflow.

Basic Autofill​

Basic Autofill is designed for straightforward, single-source fills drawn directly from each page's own content.

Common use cases:

  • Generate a one-paragraph summary of a meeting notes page
  • Extract specific fields like dates, names, or action items from a document
  • Translate page content into another language
  • Auto-tag or categorize entries using a select or multi-select property

Setup steps:

  1. Hover over the property you want to autofill and click the property name
  2. Select AI Autofill or Set up AI Autofill
  3. Select Basic
  4. Choose the autofill action — Summary, Translate, Key info, or Custom autofill
  5. Set when it runs: Manually, On page create, or On page edits
  6. Save

Basic Autofill only reads the content of the specific row or page it's filling. It does not search your wider workspace or the web. For cross-page or web-based lookups, use Custom Agent Autofill.

Custom Agent Autofill​

Custom Agent Autofill handles more advanced scenarios — workflows with multi-step logic, conditional fills, or data that needs to come from multiple places at once.

Common use cases:

  • Fill a property using a workspace search for related context from other pages
  • Pull in information from the web and include source citations
  • Apply conditional logic — for example, "Only fill if Status is 'Needs review'"
  • Update several properties simultaneously based on a single set of instructions

Setup steps:

  1. Hover over the property you want to autofill and click the property name
  2. Select AI Autofill or Set up AI Autofill
  3. Select Custom Agent
  4. Write clear, specific instructions for what to fill and how
    • Example: "Summarize the page in two sentences. If the page mentions a launch date, extract it to the Launch Date property. If no date is mentioned, leave that property blank."
  5. Enable Workspace search or Web search in the agent settings if your workflow needs external data
  6. Set when it runs: Manually, On page create, On page edits, or Schedule
  7. Save

To prevent Autofill from overwriting cells that already have a value, add this line to your instructions: "Only fill this property if it is currently empty."
